Party time!

Saturday was another gig day for us! All week we had been advertising a final gig where we would be performing the songs the kids in schools had liked during the week in a big church in Iserlohn. The day began with a spot of breakfast at the house I was staying in; the pastor Gottfried Abrath and his family made us a lovely German breakfast and energised us before our day of setting up and preparation for the evening gig.

With a wedding happening during the afternoon in the same spot as our gig, the day involved a lot of setting up and moving things around to suit the wedding! We managed to squeeze in a sound check before the church was decorated ready for the 3:30pm wedding. We took the opportunity to rest, sleep and play a bit of pool!

I seem to be encountering a few problems with my guitar and so we are slightly confused about what is going wrong; a lot of funny noises when it is plugged into the system. So I was using Andy’s acoustic again for the gig ( like last week). Hopefully we can get it sorted soon so I can go back to using my Taylor!

The gig started at 7pm and we played for 2 hours; our taste songs, a cover of lean on me and some worship songs. It was a great way to finish the week we had had in Iserlohn! There was a great turn out, some adults and some kids, and we even had a hot dog van outside the church. This month the church has been set up for special youth events, and so the lights and the layout of the church were arranged for us. Reece was able to be on a drum riser and me and Josh were taking positions further forward on the left and right sides.

Reece shared a moving testimony about his past and then Andy shared a message of God’s love. Both were great at communicating to the audience about why we do what we do and it was exciting to know they heard the message on Saturday night.

After the show, some of the checkpoint team organised an after show party where we celebrated a brilliant week together. Lots of dancing and laughing and it was really appreciated! Also, sad to say goodbye to some faces! We have loved working with them this week and they have been a tremendous help to us in many ways!
